Bank Veep Admits "Loaning Herself" Funds For Casino Losses

The former vice president of a bank in southeast Kansas told a U.S. judge Wednesday she loaned herself hundreds of thousands of dollars in bank funds to cover casino-gambling losses.

59-year-old Martha Thompson of Weir, Kansas pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges in United States District Court in Wichita.

The US Attorney's office says Thompson tried to cover up the loans when the FDIC was preparing to audit the bank, the Citizens Bank of Weir.

The government asserts the total loss was 239-thousand dollars, but Thompson has reserved the right to dispute that amount when she is sentenced July 23rd.  She faces up to 30-years in a federal prison and a fine of up to a million dollars.
