Civil Rights Initiative Fails

The Missouri Democratic Party is applauding the failure of the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative. The effort to ban racial and gender preferences ended without enough signatures to get on the ballot.
Brandon Davis, a spokesperson for the opposition WeCAN coalition, says the ballot initiative would have affected many programs. Davis says the goal of the initiative was to ban affirmative action programs in public education programs and public contracting.
The petition effort was delayed six months by a court battle over the ballot language. |
