Clay County Rethinks Siren Policy

Officials in Clay County, Missouri are rethinking their policy for severe weather sirens, in the wake of last week's tornadoes.

Like St Joseph's storms two weeks ago, the severe weather in northern Kansas City produced thunderstorms quickly, and thus the National Weather Service had not issued a tornado warning.  Sirens did not sound in either storm, but tornadoes touched down in both cases, causing significant damage.

Clay County Emergency Management Director D. C. Rogers says if he feels his community is threatened, the sirens will sound.
