Democrats Field Energy Bill In DC

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill says market speculation on crude oil is a major component of skyrocketing prices right now.  McCaskill says we trade twenty times more oil than we have every day, and investment banks are buying storage facilities for such speculation.

McCaskill reminded reporters that the top executives at several major oil companies testified under oath before a Senate committee earlier this year that without speculators in the oil markets, the price for a barrel of crude would cost around $60, rather than the current price of more than double that.

McCaskill says Democrats in the Senate are introducing a bill that would address both short-term and long-term fixes in an effort to bring down oil and gasoline prices.
