St Joseph Police and federal agents are investigating the apparent detonation of a pipe bomb near the downtown post office.
Police were called to the report of what was thought to be a bullet hole in the glass doors of a vacant business at 216 South Eighth. They soon determined that an explosive device was set off outside the building sometime Wednesday evening.
St Joe Police Detective Richard Shelton says there were no injuries in the explosion. He said the door was damaged, as was a window in the post office across the street.
Officers blocked traffic on Eighth Street between Edmond and Charles to search for evidence including possible fragments of the pipe.
There have been no arrests in the case, and no injuries were reported.
