Bankrupt Automotive Supplier To Close Doors In St Joe
About 180 employees will be affected by the closing of the Progressive Molded Products plant in Mitchell Woods.
The corporate office for the firm announced their pending bankruptcy proceedings, and when some key automotive clients pulled out, the company decided to close.
The firm in a second-tier supplier of custom molded products for cars and trucks, including plastic consoles.
The company's woes are a direct result of the recent downturn in the automotive sector.
Layoffs are already underway in the company's Canadian facility. The Saint Joseph plant was alerted on Monday and the local Rapid Response and Dislocated Worker Service providers have been contacted.
The company hopes to keep operations going through end of month, but it could close within two weeks. Officials are not yet certain when the St Joseph plant will close, estimating between two and four weeks.
